The crunching of leaves, not his own but the one trailing him, had stopped. He pulled his torso up and off the ground, scrying some misshapen shadow standing in the distance. Through the moonlight he saw not a face- Just a short and stout silhouette, grasping something in their hand with such intensity that it was shaking; Whether from fear or adrenaline Myer couldn’t discern.
Myer spat out, “N-Now now! W-We can talk this out, c-can’t we?”
The stout silhouette gave a response; a crunch of leaves under a foot moved forwards.
“L-Listen! Is it money you want? I-I got money! Not on me but I got it!”
The Vampire took a lumbering towards Myer. Then another. And another. No matter how many words Myer could produce, he would not stop. As the distance closed he couldn’t untangle his foot, begging and pleading up until it stood above him. Myer took a good, long silent gaze. He saw the figures' thick hair and fine jacket laid over their plump figure, the knife in their hand swaying back and forth. The figure took one, large, fumbling step, planting his foot next to Myers locked foot.
They were caught in a thin moon beam; pale speckled light strained through wintering leaves. Both were almost suspended, shaking and twitching but without action. With a jolt they both swiveled to the trail that they just upturned. There was an echo- Crashing leaves and snapping branches with a steady gait- Through the pale they could see a winged figure emerging from the dark.
Myer shouted, “Don’t worry about me Ruach! Save your own skin!”
Myer committed himself to a haphazard plan. With his free foot he kicked the wrist of the foe stood above him- He folded and fell- Exactly as envisioned! His fleshy hand quivered and his knife flipped and flopped resting on a pile of leaves. That stout bastard rocked backwards onto his back gripping his wrist and groaning. Myer was quick to pull himself forwards, grabbing it cutting at the greenery snagged around his ankle-
The stout Vampire was up, far quicker than he would have thought- Something not a part of his plan. Absurd or abhorrent perhaps should have stabbed him or something with the precious seconds of his stunning- Or he could have- He held it like a warhammer. The Vampire picked up a hefty solid branch, and held it tightly. Something perfect for fencing or a pole or whatever a sturdy rod could be used for. He seemed intent on using it as a bludgeon. In a wobbless stance he arced it behind his head, ready to drive his hammer down into the nail of Myer’s head.
With a twist he spun and batted backwards. There was an earthy crack and the sound of splinters.
