All eyes were on Myer. Myers' eyes were on the ground. They shuffled- Across the fire and every stone, slowly shifting flipply spinning towards furry feet. Feet hidden in flowing wavering tall glass. A shift up- Legs, standing, no different than before. Another shuffle- Stomach, flat and thin, heavy with fur. A upwards slide- The chest, naturally large but verging on indistinct, hovered above the heart was the black spot. His eyes spun upwards- He met his eyes. Just a blankness, a listlessness, someone was there but very far away.
Myer threw up his hands, “I’m sorry! My fault, utterly! Please forgive me!”
Ruach was silent.
Carrie shouted, “Be a man! Keep your honor! An eye for an eye!”
Jorgen sputtered, “He lost his eye!”
Tracker muttered, “Fair is fair, I suppose.”
Myer hung his head low, lifting heavy arms. He stood in front of the fire like a quivering scarecrow. He whimpered, “An eye for an eye…”
Ruach stared.
Myer mumbled, “You can- Uh- Throw a stone at me or something…”
Ruach gave a long few blinks. He stretched, as if looking over or beyond the hatted-target.
Arms still outstretched, Myer flicked a finger towards a pile of rough stones, “Just- Like- One of those…”
Carrie cupped her hands around her mouth and gave a shout, “Come on, don’t be shy! Stone him! He’s askin’ for it!”
Jorgen joined with a cheer, “Get the biggest stone you can! Throw it hard or I’ll have to throw it for you!”
Tracker gave directions, “Make sure you aim right for the forehead, I want to see what you can do.”
Ruach took a slow squat, still affixed to Myer with a piercing gaze. He plucked a palm sized stone, giving it a loose grip.
Myer fully turned his face to the floor. His knuckles ran white as sweat balled up in his fists. His shaky stance steadied as he bit his lip. He cringed, dug a single heel into the mud, and braced for whatever came next…
It was novice-like in all aspects. He was cocked back and stiff- His arm tense but grip free, he leaned an awkward way and had no particular focus. His gaze shifted from Myer to the group behind him. On the sidelines were the others- Carrie, Jorgen, and Tracker, all anticipating something. Carrie anticipated a flinching or fleeing Myer. Jorgen anticipated a big fat swelling lump. Tracker anticipated- There was something on the air.
