A Wonderful Meeting - Page 16

Without hesitation Jorgen reached for it. With a snap two palms extended- To Carrie it was almost like sleight of hand, both breaking from a relaxed sit to lunging and leaning, she blinked and she missed all that was in between. She only saw Jorgens palm inches away from the set bait, his wrist firmly gripped by Tracker. With a plain and steady voice, only the faintest hint of any energy, Tracker spoke.

“You’re fast, kid.”

Jorgen huffed, whined, and squirmed, “I would’ve been faster if I knew this was a test!”

Carrie leaned forwards while half reaching for the bait, “I was half tempted to volunteer myself but now I definitely want to give it a try!”

Tracker cut back in “No, I’m not going to let my handwork be manhandled, I was being sarcastic.”

Jorgen shrunk back into a curtain of grass, “I don’t like big words…”

Carrie playfully parted the curtain with the knob of her axe, “D’aww… Big words ain’t so bad. They take a bit to say but say a lot in return!”

Jorgen flipped off his back, “It’s too big! It doesn’t mean anything! And I know what sarc-crasm is…”

He, in fact, did not know what sarcasm is.

Tracker replied, “Sarcasm- It’s just verbal irony.”

Carrie’s voice trailed off only to find an answer, “It’s like… Saying the opposite! When you’re playing with someone by saying the wrong thing!”

Jorgen sat silently.

Carrie turned to Myer, “Myer! I’m sure you won’t get snagged and flipped while you’re out pissing tonight!”

Myer rattled a fiery fire-poker, casting sparks up and around, “You vulgar, vulgar, girl! I will have you know that I am very aware of my surroundings!”

Tracker shouted over, “Watch yourself, if you’re not careful you’ll burn one of us.”

Carrie amended, “Or yourself!”

Jorgen amended further, “Or me…”

Myer threw his hands and the poker up, “Alright! Alright… I’ll- Oh- Shit-!” The poker left his hand.
